PreventionGenetics Releases Genetic Tests for Infertility

Marshfield, WI – PreventionGenetics has launched new genetic tests for both female and male infertility. Infertility affects 10-20% of couples worldwide and is generally attributed to males and females equally. It is estimated that genetic abnormalities including both chromosomal and single-gene alterations can account for up to 30% of cases of infertility (Hotaling 2014).

In addition to the diagnostic value, genetic testing for infertility may influence treatment and management. “For example hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is a type of infertility with an underlying genetic cause” said Fang Xu, PhD “it is also treatable once diagnosed”.  “In other cases, the answers may help a couple understand the underlying cause of their infertility to know what they are up against,” Xu added.

Infertility tests now available at PreventionGenetics include the new infertility sequencing panels covering 83 genes for females and 80 genes for males, chromosomal microarray, Y chromosome deletion testing, and FMR1 CGG Repeat Expansion for Premature Ovarian Failure (POF type 1).

Tests offered by PreventionGenetics are performed in their CLIA and ISO 15189:2013 accredited laboratory. All tests must be ordered through a qualified healthcare provider.
