Gender Panel

PreventionGenetics has extensive experience in the use of genetic markers for both research and clinical applications. PreventionGenetics will generate over 2 million unique genotypes for research and clinical applications in 2005.

The PreventionGenetics Gender Panel consists of a unique proprietary grouping of 14 STRP and indel markers covering the sex chromosomes. The allele patterns generated by these 14 markers for each individual tested are virtually unique but more importantly can be definitive for gender assignment in the case of ambiguous gender births.

The PreventionGenetics Gender Panel can also be used to rapidly detect gross chromosome abnormalities of the X and Y chromosomes as well as altered dosage of the sex chromosomes. While this test is rapid and the results fairly descriptive of gross sex chromosome dosage, final diagnosis of these potential abnormalities should be carried out in an approved cytogenetics lab.
